Picking Your Birthstone For December

BirthstoneDuring old days lapis lazuli was considered equivalent to gold in its value. The stone was extremely popular among the Egyptians who often sent their soldiers and traders on expeditions to find out the stone of azure for amulets, jewelry, medicine and other decorative goods.

In Past lapis lazuli didn’t commonly refer as a true birthstone, but in 1912 a jewelry trade group created a list of birthstones in which lapis lazuli was also included. Nowadays, lapis lazuli is often gifted to those who born in December, as it is known as the birthstone for the month of December.

No doubt about that lapis lazuli has such a glorious past, as no other stone is parallel to it in this connection. Various kings and queens, seers, fortunetellers and spiritual heads always liked to wear that stone. It is said that Cleopatra used its pulverized form as eye shade, and a Sumerian queen Pubic often clad in a robe jutted with gold and lapis lazuli.

Mostly, lapis lazuli was worn because of its associated healing powers and this stone was reckoned as the stone of tranquility, peace and truth that could prove very helpful in meditation and get better control of one’s given powers.

Then a time came when lapis lazuli was used to create a vivid blue color for paintings. It was mixed with a special kind of oil for this purpose with which its pigment was extracted to illuminate manuscript.

Today, lapis lazuli is also being widely used in decorative items, jewelry and beads, but in this age of diamond, ruby and sapphire, it doesn’t have the same glory and luster, as it used to enjoy in past. But still there are many who believe in the healing power of this stone and like to wear it to get better focus and stability in their relationship, as they reckon it a stone of love, friendship and peace, and that’s why this stone is gifted to the people who born in December as lapis lazuli is a birthstone for the month of December.
